Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, the years in which we have seen evil.
(Psalm 90:15)

Beloved! In life we go through afflictions and wonder why God allows them. But the Bible says that God allows afflictions to test the genuineness of our faith in Him in this evil world.

The Lord will never afflict us forever but will have compassion on us and show His lovingkindness to us. He will reward us and make us glad according to the days of our affliction. The Bible says, “Though He causes grief, yet He will show compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly” (Lamentations 3:32,33).

A six year old girl had paralysis on one side of her body. The doctors who examined her said, “Your daughter will have to use a wheelchair all her life. We cannot do anything. Take your daughter home!” But the father refused to accept this fact and was determined to make her walk. So, he bought books that stated his daughter’s condition and read it. He studied the disease and its cure and began to treat her accordingly. Whenever there was a need for an injection, he himself injected that medicine. But her neck began to bend. His daughter would wail in pain, “Daddy! My leg is paining! I have pain in my neck and hip!” He made his daughter pass through the afflictions in hope that she would walk one day.

Days rolled by. His treatment started to yield the desired results. Her legs became stronger day by day and he gave her physiotherapy exercises for her neck. On the eighteenth birthday of his daughter, he heard someone knocking on his door. When he opened the door, he was stunned! His dear daughter was standing outside his room in her best dress and then walked into the room! He started dancing and shouting, “I have healed my daughter! She can walk now!”

Beloved! Seek the Lord and be firm in Him in your afflictions. The Lord will reward you at the end of your afflictions and make you glad. Moses, the man who led the Israelites from Egypt into Canaan says, “Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, the years in which we have seen evil” (Psalm 90:15). The Lord will make you glad for the days of your afflictions and bless you.

Prayer:

Loving Heavenly Father,

Unworthy as I am, I come pleading before Your Throne for Your everlasting grace and mercies. I seek shelter under Your mighty in the secret places. Protect me this day and help me face the storms of life valiantly receiving Your perfect grace. Help me to shine like gold while I go through afflictions. Fill me today with the anointing of the Holy Spirit and make me glad. In Jesus’ name I pray.

Amen.
