In my previous post there was a tutorial about hosting website in your own home personal computer. But is it good or reliable to host your own website? There are some limitations in doing so. First you need a very high quality internet connection speed in your computer. There should not be down time. You have to give 24 hr/day to monitor your server. In case of professional web hosting companies, they have fully qualified full time staffs to monitor and maintain the server’s performance.
Next problem is with IP address provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They assign different IP addresses for your computer when you connect to the internet which is called Dynamic IP. This can be solved by using Dynamic IP Updater software in your computer but this method is not reliable. Or you have to pay extra amount to your ISP for dedicated Static or non-changing IP address. Next limitation may be your port number where your web server runs. Usually apache web server runs on port 80 of your computer. There may be the case that your ISP can block this port and this may cause the connection closed or you have to run the server in next port.
So the conclusion is that it is better to host your website in any professional web hosting providers which have very low down time with very high bandwidth internet connection, are secured with latest softwares and tools and are monitored and maintained all the time with qualified staffs. The hosting cost are also cheaper. There are some hosting companies which provide you unlimited disk space with unlimited bandwidth in just 3$ per month. If you just want to know that how the web server actually works then you can try it at home. Just click here to read step-by-step instructions.
